2025 in Review

Kristis Klimbers Foundation would like to say a huge THANK YOU to all of our supporters.

Our mission is to provide free 3D mammograms to uninsured women in underserved communities, and to provide recovery wear items to cancer survivors to allow them to lead active and healthy lives, in addition to providing other financial support.

We expanded our partnerships with several nonprofit organizations this year that are directly or indirectly aligned with our mission. These partnerships have allowed us to expand our resources, and to have a greater impact on our community.

We sponsored on-site mammography events for uninsured women in underserved communities including the The Black Family Wellness event in March hosted by the Phoenix Chapter of the Links, an organization of women dedicated to improving the quality of life for humankind through community service.

We also sponsored free mammograms for uninsured women in South Phoenix at two onsite mammography events with A Permanent Voice, a non profit organization that helps marginalized youths, seniors, and families in South Phoenix to find their own voice through education, resources, and connection.

After meeting two years ago with their Executive Director Dana Burns, we recognized a significant gap in mammogram services, and an understanding of the need for the importance of regular mammograms screenings.within this underserved community. We have made progress as Ms. Burns noted below.

“Just wanted to share that last week, I received a call from the Principal at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School advised me due to me introducing her to the collaboration; the life of one of her teachers has literally been SAVED! It had been 10 years since the teacher had a mammogram and in January 2025, during the MLK Celebration the teacher was screened and later found out she had Stage 2 breast cancer. Since that time, she has received the necessary treatment and is prayerfully on her way to recovery. I must say South Phoenix has been Blessed with this Awesome trio! Ms. Kristi started with the two of us meeting and you saw a need in our community and reached out and poured in!”

In July we partnered with First Descents, a non profit that provides life changing outdoor adventures for young adults impacted by cancer and other serious health conditions, for a hike in Flagstaff, AZ during their annual “Out Living It Day” with their local community leader. After the hike we supported a breakfast event with several young cancer survivors who shared how their adventures with First Descents have helped them recover from their cancer treatments and bond with other young adults that were going through a similar experience.

During the government shutdown , we were disheartened to learn that several cancer patients and survivors were no longer receiving critical benefits through SNAP, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. So we helped fund meals for cancer patients at The Joy Bus Diner, a non profit organization whose sole purpose is to relieve the daily struggles of people with cancer by delivering a fresh and healthy meal with a friendly face.

We also provided a grab and go breakfast for families staying at The Ronald McDonald House Charities, a non profit that provides lodging, comfort and resources for families with sick children.

Thanks to our sponsors, we distributed mastectomy bras to women who have had life changing breast surgery due to a breast cancer diagnosis.

On the legislative front, we partnered with the American Cancer Society to help lobby Congress to extend enhanced health subsidies for individuals who had health insurance under the Affordable Care Act, ACA. We shared stories on how cancer survivors that we have helped sign up for insurance under the ACA will most likely forgo insurance if these subsidies expired. These efforts have been unsuccessful and many cancer survivors and others will see a significant spike in their insurance premiums in 2026.

We also partnered with several other nonprofits to support the Find it Early Act, legislation that would mandate all health insurance companies to cover crucial supplemental breast imaging like ultrasounds. MRI’s ( molecular breast imaging) with no out of pocket costs This legislation is still pending approval.

In 2026 we will continue our efforts to support the cancer community and we look forward to partnering with our nonprofits to fulfill our mission. We know rising health insurance costs will cause many to forgo health insurance, and create a greater need for our free mammogram programs.

We thank you all for your support and for continuing to give back to those in need.

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing for others?” Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
